Agatti Island - Location and how to get there

Lakshadweep is a group of 30 Islands that are to the west of India,  in the Arabian Sea.

Only 10 of these 30 islands are inhabited. The uninhabited islands are sometimes host to roosting seabirds!

These are beautiful coral islands with scenic white beaches,  exquisite blue lagoons.

Kids and elders will love wading in these turquise blue lagoons.

Caution: Make sure the Lagoons are not deep (ask some of the locals before wading in)

The Kayaking, Snorkelling and Scuba diving facilities put up by the  Lakshadweep Govt. Tourism  (SPORTS).

Warning:You need tourist permission along with confirmed place of stay, to enter these islands. But this is not hard to obtain.

Among these coral islands, Agatti is the easiest to reach as it has an Airport.  It takes about an hour to get there from airports at Kochi or Kozhikode.

It is connected through chopper and speed vessel to the capital and main island which is  Kavaratti.

All the islands are inter connected via speed vessels.

A couple of choppers are available to attend to medical emergencies on any island.

There are various classes you can travel by on ship, starting from deck (cheapest) to first class.
A second class cabin is the most convenient for a family of 4 , for example.

If you travel by Plane this is the breath taking view of the island that you see.
Notice how big the lagoon (light blue) is to one side.
Also notice how there is a long strip towards its southern tip.
This is the Runway of the airport.
